Baby steps into adulthood...

It's been a while since I've posted! Sorry about that!  I guess I haven't really been doing anything interesting enought to blog about.  Well, I have gotten my own place so I have started taking my baby steps into adulthood, hence my title.  When I moved in everything was great, except for one minor detail...my gas wasn't on.  Cold showers really are as uncomfortable as they sound.  I had to take one for two mornings, since I moved in on Saturday and the company weren't able to come until Monday morning.  There is a funny story about that though...my gas controls my stove along with my hot water.  The "gas guy" is lighting my pilot lights and asks, "Do you like to cook?" I respond with, "Yea. I do like to cook." His response, "Have you cooked anything yet?" I'm pretty sure my face said it all, but "Um no...the gas wasn't on."

If that were the only dumb comment I had of the day, trying to get everything in order it would be okay, but no.  I had to call my phone company because I was unable to call out because apparently the long distance hadn't been enabled. No big deal, easy fix. When I called I said, "I am able to receive calls, but I cannot make any." He did his research, yada ya...long distance was the problem.  I guess he was trying to make conversation, but he says, "Are you calling me from your home phone."  No...  Good Grief. I have figured out why some people are meant to just be service people.

I have also added a member to my mini-family! I got myself a kitten this weekend and she is just the cutest thing!  Her name is Fancy! The name came from Reba's song Fancy.  You may ask yourself, why not just name the cat Reba? Well...b/c I have already had a pet named Reba, so... Well...aren't you a big fan of Days? Why not that? I have a cat named Marnie that lives with my mom and her name is a nickname of Marlena from Days. So...here's your one chance Fancy don't let me down! :) It suits her though!

I would also like to mention that Days of our Lives truly begins this Monday!! John and Marlena are making their grand return to Salem on Monday, September 26th! I have been waiting for this day for 2 1/2 years since they left on January 23, 2009.  It hasn't been the same since they left and I feel no shame in saying that I quit watching for about 9 months after they left and have not been as excited about my favorite show since.  Well...my excitement has come back in full force! I haven't been this ecstatic about a show in a really long time and to see my favorite people come back and actually have a story (A good one!) is just freakin' fabulous!  They are the reason why I became addicted to this show and the reason why I will become unaddicted if they ever leave, which better be their decision, by the way!  I thank my mother for loving this show...it's a multi-generational thing.  If it weren't for her hysterical crying when John died in October 2007, I never would have started watching regularly. I had always loved John and I cried when he died too, but don't worry he came back to life! ;) But, when they were written off...I don't even want to discuss how angry I was. You can ask my roommates for clarification on that.  Trying to explain my excitement about Days is simple.  It is the same way people get excited over their favorite shows like Glee or Grey's Anatomy.  When a character leaves you get mad, when one dies you cry and when someone comes back you are completely thrilled. Well, that's how I feel about Days.  Don't downplay the excitement just because my favorite show happens to be a Daytime show instead of Primetime.  All Primetime shows are basically soap operas, but with a bigger budget. Think about it...

I'm sure I will do another blog about John and Marlena's grand return to the streets of Salem, but until then...

Queen of Soaps Write a Cookbook

So...the "Queen of Soaps" has written a cookbook. Unfortunately, I have not gotten the book yet (yes...i know this is shocking for people that know me.) Anyway, there is the contest going on where you can win an autographed copy of Deidre Hall: Kitchen Closeup. You can enter it here: http://thelittleredhenfoodsite.blogspot.com/2011/02/kitchen-closeup-by-deidre-hall-contest.html

I am still hoping that she will come back to Days!! It is so weird not having her on there anymore. I mean, Day's is like another family and it's like a family member is missing. You get what I'm saying?!? :) My hopes will never die that she will return...wouldn't hurt if she brought Drake along with her. I mean...with him missing (where's my hunk?) Their chemistry together was completely unreal! I mean...why are these two not together in real life?!?! A question that will never be answered. lol :) Hopefully, they will reunite onscreen so at least I can see how much their alter egos love each other! John and Marlena together FOREVER!!! :)

Till we speak again! :)

Vegas Baby!

Hello everyone!

Sorry I haven't posted in a while!! So...I will be heading to Las Vegas in April to see...wait for it...the ACM Awards!! Reba and Blake Shelton are hosting and I can barely contain my excitement!! I have never been to Vegas and I can't believe I am going now! I will let y'all know details once I get them!

Nothing else much has been happening in my life..still looking for a job, which totally sucks! I'm trying though, it's just difficult!

Also, in "Days" news the charcters of Nathan, Stephanie and Phillip are leaving the show.  While, I am not sad to see Stephanie go in the least bit (her character has been testing my nerves lately) I am rather disappointed to see Nathan and Phillip go.  While, Jay Kenneth Johnson (Phillip) and Shelly Henning (Stephanie) have left of their own free will...Mark Hapka (Nathan) has been fired.  It is sad b/c all three of these characters were in the same storyline, which means this storyline is completely toast.  I will miss Phillip...I really like his character and he started on the show in 1999, left in 2004(?) , was recasted and came back in 2007 and is now leaving again.  I don't think he needs to be recasted this time, but that is just my opinion.

Of course, with three people leaving, I am thinking that frees up some of the budget. Maybe my characters can come back! :) The only reason I think Marlena may be returning is because Deidre Hall has been doing a number of appearances for "Days" and I don't think she'd be doing that (or invited to do that) if they were not thinking of asking her back.  I hope I am right, b/c the show just isn't the same without her! Time will tell.

I will try and update soon...if something interesting happens! :)

Deidre Hall Back To Days....

So...there are rumors swirling that Deidre Hall will reprise her role as legendary Dr. Marlena Evans on Days of our Lives.  Of course, if you want to go by her married name(s) then it would be, Dr. Marlena Evans Craig, Brady, Black, Brady, Black, North, Black.  Haha! :) Okay...so it the show gets crazy at times!  Anyway, the only reason I saw rumors are swirling is because she has been out promoting the Days of our Lives 45th anniversary book like crazy.  Either, they have really buried the hatchet or their is some negotiating going on (please let that be the case)!  Also, she has been promoting the book with the Executive Producer, Greg Meng, who she says is a great guy.  "Days" has also been picked up for 2 more years, with the option of a third year, which means they've got a bigger budget.  I know that they would not pay her the million dollar salary she was making when she left, but she had already offered to take a pay cut.  I think that still stands, as she has said that she is more than financially secure.
Maybe this is just wishful thinking on my part, but come on...anyone who watches the show, realizes that Sami needs her mother.  It's just a fact.  Also, I would be lying if I said that I hope John comes back with Marlena from Switzerland (if they decide to bring her back).  Although, how much of a twist would it be if Stefano had gotten John in Switzerland...oh the stories they could tell if they brought them back!  Marlena is definitely needed...I think EJ would already be dead or in a coma by now if she was still in Salem.  Come on TPTB bring her, preferably them, back!! Remember the good ole' days of John & Marlena! Click on the link below...

The Affair (One of, if not, the best storyline...EVER!)

It's The Most Wonderful Time of the Year!

Christmas time is upon us!  Thank goodness for that! Christmas is my favorite time of year!  The lights, the garland, the spirit of Christmas is just so wonderful and magical.  I remember as a child, I just wanted presents. It was all about the presents.  But, who at 5 wasn't concerned about the presents??  If you weren't, I think you must have had something wrong with you. lol.  As you get older though, you begin to realize that Christmas isn't all about the presents.  It's about family, love and most importantly the birth of Jesus Christ.  It is a cherished holiday and very special to me.  Every Christmas you must give thanks to God for giving you another year on this earth to be with your family.  Any day could be our last, and it is important to remember that thought; "Live each day as if it were your last." "Seize the day."  These quotes go a long way if you keep them in your subconscious.
Some Christmases are sadder than others.  Example...our last Christmas with John.  We knew it would be our last, but we enjoyed it to the fullest.  Santa came to our house and passed out presents on Christmas Eve and when we woke up we had more!  It was amazing!  That last Christmas with John left so many good memories to me, since most of mine with him revolve around him being sick.  I was only 7 when he passed away and 6 when he got diagnosed.  My memories live in pictures and videos that we have.  My memories of us as a family before he got sick are pretty much non-existent, which is something that I will never be able to change.  Some days I am happy it is that way, only because if it had been at a different age (when I was older) I would remember so many bad things (radiation, chemo, etc...).  Not that I don't remember it now, but they are all intertwined with good memories.  Being in Minnesota for a bone marrow transplant, but remembering "Spooky World" for Halloween and going to the "Mall of America" for the log ride.  Memories of a seven year old girl...but, I would love to have those 4 years worth of memories before he got sick.  He was my best friend, and there are memories scattered in my mind of us, but not all four years.  I didn't mean to get all sappy, but he is still a member of the family, even when people walk on eggshells around the topic.  It's been 15 years...there will always be an empty place, but it heals over time, but never completely.  I will include a picture of us later! :)
But, the magic of this season and of God is that he blessed me with a new little buddy.  Jackson was a blessing to this family and to me in general.  I love him so much and to tell you how he helped me would take much more than I am willing to write in this blog.  I do not  need to explain how much I love him, because for the people that know and see us it is pretty evident.
Christmas is such a magical time.  It takes you to a place, if only for a day, that makes you feel joyful inside.  Like I said before, it is absolutely my favorite time of the year.  I understand that buying gifts can be stressful, but try and remember the reason for the season.  Merry Christmas to all of you and I hope you have a blessed holiday!! :)

John and me on Christmas morning, 1995.  Our last Christmas.

We went to Callaway Gardens during Christmas Break a couple of years ago. :)
